F8X M2/M3/M4 Drivetrain Lore:

The early M3/M4 models were built with a carbon fiber driveshaft (CFRP), then in November 2017, they switched to a steel driveshaft, however the M4 CS and GTS were excluded and kept the carbon shaft going forward in production. Recalls were ordered and some models may have been swapped. The differentials are different for the carbon and steel driveshafts as well. You may have to visually confirm which parts you need before upgrading.

• The diff for the M3/M4 carbon shaft has 34 teeth.
• The diff for the M3/M4 steel shaft has 27 teeth.

The M2 shows two OEM driveshafts which are both steel with different part numbers than the M3/M4, but they do share the same diffs with 27 or 34 teeth.

All F8X M2/M3/M4 share the same DCT transmission, 6-speed trans, clutch/flywheel and rear axle OEM part numbers.
