The RP-1™ track pad is designed for exceptional modulation and control, featuring a friction coefficient of 0.45 between 100°C and 750°C. It excels in providing a smooth and progressive braking response, making it ideal for vehicles with over-servoed braking systems or big brake kits. Compared to the RP-X™ brake pad, the RP-1 offers a less aggressive bite, perfect for drivers who prioritize refined performance. For more details, see our comparison guide to select the best pad for your requirements.

EBC RP-1 Bed-in Procedure:
No street pre-bedding is required or permitted, as these are pure race compounds. Although technically not road-legal in the EU, many drivers use RP pads on the street, enjoying minimal noise and excellent low-speed performance. While RP pads don’t require warming up and perform well in highway driving, they shine when pushed on the track. A single gentle lap to seat the pads, followed by a Fade 3 procedure, should be sufficient for optimal performance.

More Info:
EBC Brakes Racing’s RP-1™ is tailored for high-performance track use, offering outstanding modulation and control, allowing drivers to fine-tune their braking through every corner. Its friction coefficient of 0.45 across a wide temperature range ensures consistent, progressive braking. Specifically designed to suit over-servoed braking systems and big brake kits, RP-1™ is a top choice for those who value precision.

Should I Run the EBC RP1 or RPX Brake Pads?
The EBC RP-1 and RP-X brake pads offer different braking characteristics, allowing drivers to choose the pad that best suits their vehicle and driving style.

The RP-1 pad provides a lower friction coefficient of 0.45 and operates up to 750°C without fade. Its smooth, progressive response is ideal for vehicles with over-servoed braking systems (like VW Golf GTI, BMW M cars, and Audi RS models) that can feel too sharp under light braking. The RP-1 allows for more brake pedal travel, offering precise control, especially beneficial for trail-braking and non-ABS vehicles, and helps reduce the overly sensitive braking feel often found in cars with big brake kits (BBKs) and stock master cylinders.

On the other hand, the RP-X pad features a higher friction coefficient of 0.55 and operates up to 850°C, delivering a stronger initial bite and more braking power with less pedal effort. This makes it ideal for under-servoed vehicles like the Nissan GT-R and Porsche GT models, where a more aggressive braking response is desired. The RP-X provides a powerful yet controlled braking experience, especially for dedicated track cars with adjustable master cylinders or brake bias adjusters.

Both pads offer excellent fade resistance and consistent performance, allowing drivers to select based on their preference for either a more progressive (RP-1) or aggressive (RP-X) braking feel.
