Benefits of silver finish vs thermic black:
While EBC is rapidly transitioning to its new Gen 3 silver grey disc rotors, all SG and SG2F disc rotors will continue to use the Gen 1 disc coating for the foreseeable future. The SG2F/SG2FC discs/rotors will feature both a black ring and hub. The pad swept area will quickly wear down to the natural iron finish on the disc ring, while any areas that are not swept will remain protected by the black coating unless burned off due to hard use and elevated temperatures, particularly at the outer edges, which is unavoidable.

The updated silver finish on EBC rotors provides enhanced corrosion resistance compared to the previous black etch paint while preserving the original appearance of the rotor hat or hub. This ensures a consistent look between the front and rear of the vehicle, even if only one axle is replaced. The environmentally friendly coating process occurs at the casting facility right after machining and washing, effectively preventing surface corrosion that often starts on untreated iron.
